Analysis of New Packaging Technology of NICE Components

With the rapid development of the photovoltaic industry, resulting in the requirements for encapsulation, reliability, component durability, and cost reduction of photovoltaic modules, the demand for new photovoltaic module packaging technology arises. The new packaging technology of NICE (New Industrial Solar Cell Encapsulation) module, which is sold by the company, is a patented technology of Apollon Solar's innovative packaging and in-cell battery interconnection. Its electrical interconnection is utilized. The pressure generated by the vacuum in the sealed space between the two sides of the glass directly presses the bare copper strip on the grid line of the cell. Compared to standard components, NICE components do not need to use the same package as EVA but use PIB (Poly-Isobutylene Polyester Isobutylene) to seal the edge of the module to block moisture ingress.

The advantages of using NICE technology:

1. The production line is fully automated, requiring only 2 operators per 30 MW production line.

2. Thicker (bare copper) strips can be used to reduce the number of components in the series and increase output power.

3. It can be perfectly applied to cryogenic process battery cells without degradation of output (eg heterojunction solar cells or bifacial solar cells)

4. By simplifying the battery metallization process by means of pressure contact, the positive grid of the cell grid can be completely eliminated, which reduces the consumption of silver and saves considerable cost. The backside busbars can be concealed into an all-aluminum surface thus improving passivation quality and increasing cell efficiency.

5. PIB (Poly-Isobutylene Polyester Isobutylene) package, stronger resistance to moisture.

6. Applicable to the desert temperature difference zone.

7. Components without frame, no EVA, no back plate, no welding, can save materials, beautiful, easy to combine with the building body.

8. The module has a long life span of more than 30 years. The material is 100% recyclable.

NICE technology aims to reduce the cost of the entire photovoltaic industry chain, including ingot production, slicing, battery production, and module assembly.
