A research team led by Professor Toshiya Satoshi of the University of Tokyo in Japan has announced that they have developed a new soft sensor that can be attached to the outer surface of a close-fitting garment with special printing techniques to monitor arm movement and is expected to measure heart rate and blood pressure. .

In a new issue of Nature Newsletter, Dingu Longfu et al. reported that the new sensor can monitor arm movements through weak electrical signals generated by upper limb muscles. In the experiment, the device can accurately distinguish the difference in muscle electrical signals of the subject when they shake hands and open their hands.

According to Japanese media reports, although some materials can support the wiring of the sensor on the surface of the clothing fabric, the flexibility of these materials is not ideal, and the wiring part inside the new sensor uses the newly developed stretch material, and the silver particles combined with it. , rubber materials and surfactants can make this material even if it is stretched to 3 times longer than the original, it will not be internally broken, and it can still be energized.

The researchers pointed out that they used conductive ink to attach the new sensor to the outer surface of the garment with a special printing process. As long as the clothing is worn close to the body, the movement of the upper body limb can be monitored. Even if the internal wiring is stretched due to the movement of the upper limbs, it can work as usual. After improvements, the sensor is also expected to measure heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature. The research team is also preparing to use wireless communication to transmit these monitoring data to smartphones.

In response to sports monitoring, the new sensor is also expected to come in handy in medical care. The research team is ready to work with the company to achieve a practical level of this product in two or three years.
