World's fastest solar car appears in Australia at speeds of 87 kilometers

Sunswift IVy broke the solar car speed record at the airstrip in Nowra, New South Wales.

January 18, Beijing time, at a naval base runway at Nowra, New South Wales, Australia, a car that consumes only as much energy as an oven has broken the world record of solar car speeds. The solar car was named "Sunswift IVy" and cost 175,000 pounds (about 277,000 U.S. dollars). The referee of the Guinness Book of World Records has witnessed its wonderful moment of creating new records.

Sunswift IVy was driven by Tesla’s professional racers Patton Marwyck and Craig Davis, refreshing the solar car's speed record for 23 years, with a score of 54 miles per hour (about 87 per hour). Km) increased by 5 miles (8 kilometers) from the original record.

The new record creator was built by a student at the University of New South Wales. It was about the same size as an average family car but weighed only one tenth of the latter, thanks to the carbon fiber used. The Sunswift IVy battery pack weighs 55 pounds (about 25 kilograms) and consists of 400 silicon cells that can be removed from the car after it is full. In fact, the record created on the Nowra runway has not yet reached its speed limit, and its maximum speed can reach 75 miles per hour (about 120 kilometers per hour).

In an interview with The Sun, project leader Daniel Friedman stated: “We hope this car will increase people’s interest in solar energy and actively engage in R&D and application of renewable energy technologies.” The speed record was 49 miles per hour (about 78 kilometers per hour) and was created by General Motors' Sunraycer in 1988.
